Wisconsin Employment Peace Act
The Wisconsin Employment Peace Act gives employees the right of self-organization, and the right to form, join, work with labor organizations, bargain collectively, and engage in lawful concerted activities. It also prohibits employers from interfering with an employee’s right to engage in union-related activities.
When not preempted by the National Labor Relations Act, the Wisconsin Employment Peace Act covers all employers other than the state and its political subdivisions. It also does not cover independent contractors, executives, and supervisors.
The Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission (WERC) processes complaints involving the Wisconsin Employment Peace Act and is empowered to arbitrate and mediate these disputes.
